How to Recognise Termite Damage

Signs of termites (white ants) in wooden structures and the importance of early intervention.

What are termites?

Termites (commonly called white ants) feed on cellulose; they create hidden tunnels in wooden beams, door frames, and furniture. In the TRNC, risk is higher in damp areas and wooden structures.

Warning signs

  • Hollow, crunchy sound in wood — the outer surface may look intact.
  • Mud tube traces along walls.
  • Winged individuals (swarm) in spring — usually near windows.
  • Bulging or softening of floor coverings.

Intervention

Termite treatment requires a free inspection first; a written quote follows. Barrier injection or targeted application is chosen according to building type. Early detection significantly reduces repair costs.
