What are termites?
Termites (commonly called white ants) feed on cellulose; they create hidden tunnels in wooden beams, door frames, and furniture. In the TRNC, risk is higher in damp areas and wooden structures.
Warning signs
- Hollow, crunchy sound in wood — the outer surface may look intact.
- Mud tube traces along walls.
- Winged individuals (swarm) in spring — usually near windows.
- Bulging or softening of floor coverings.
